Lib Dem had two jobs too

John Paton Day (letters, April 3) is scathing re John Lamont’s intention, in the event of him winning the Borders Westminster seat, to donate to charity his MSP’s salary for the overlap year.

Perhaps he has forgotten the stance of his one-time fellow Liberal Democrat council colleague, Jim Hume, who had no qualms about being simultaneously an MSP and a Scottish Borders councillor – this for a period of some five years.

There is, however, a difference between Mr Hume and Mr Lamont – Mr Hume retained the salaries for both positions.
