I welcome the news that the budget for young carers has been put back in to Scottish Borders Council’s spending plans because of public pressure.
I am indebted to my campaign co-ordinator, Michael Grieve, who as a carer has helped campaign to have this £25,000 reinstated. It just goes to show that where there is a willingness to fight back, a victory for common sense can be achieved.
The proposal to cut this budget would have caused major hardship for the young carers and would have meant the withdrawal of the only support outwith their family unit.
