Wind farm cash fund opens

Community groups are being urged to share their ideas and take advantage of the sustainable development fund created by the developers of the Langhope Rig wind farm.

The SSE pot is available to non-profit making organisations, community groups and charities across the Borders, with applications over £5,000 and up to £125,000 accepted.

A spokeswoman for SSE said: “The fund’s key priority is the enhancement of the built and natural environment through activities that build upon local heritage and support the visitor economy.

“Successful projects will have the potential to make a significant and sustainable difference to people within the region.”

The fund will close for applications on June 27, following which an independent panel chaired by former First Minister Lord Jack McConnell will decide on the successful applicants. Lord McConnell said: “The sustainable development fund represents a golden opportunity for communities to kick-start a transformational project in their local area.”
