Will to boost Kerr appeal

HASTINGS & Co solicitors and estate agents are raising money for the Margaret Kerr palliative care unit at the Borders General Hospital.

The firm, which has offices in Kelso and Selkirk, hopes to help fundraisers net the last £600,00 needed for the £4.1million project.

The company’s Ron Hastings said: “The Margaret Kerr Willing to Help appeal is a new venture. Basically anyone wanting to make a will is charged a set amount and we donate 50 per cent to the Margaret Kerr Unit appeal.”

The solicitors raised about £2,500 for Cancer Research from their winter wills campaign and have just started fundraising for the unit.

Mr Hastings explained: “The Margaret Kerr unit was selected as it is linked to our Cancer Research fundraising and is focused on helping those most affected in the Borders. With the unit at BGH benefiting Borderers and their families, it keeps the giving and benefits local.

“We selected this as the most appropriate and relevant to our clients and, rather than a one-off will aid initiative with proceeds divided between many different good causes, we felt it better to focus the funding and hope to provide some real help to the Margaret Kerr Unit, keeping this in the public eye as it goes for the final push towards its target.”
