Water supplies hit

TWEEDDALE has been hit by frozen pipes and water supply problems during the cold snap.

Businesses and householders in and around Peebles were without water for several days during the freeze as Scottish Water engineers struggled to deal with problems, including a burst water main.

Scottish Water’s Borders manager Bill Elliot said: “Our engineers have been working around the clock, in freezing conditions, to keep customers across the Borders in drinking water supply. Additional repair squads and leakage detection teams were deployed.”

He added: “The majority of issues, however, have been with customers’ own domestic pipes freezing and bursting. Advice on what to do in this situation is available at www.scottishwater.co.uk/warmpipes. There is also information on how customers can contact a registered plumber. We would ask anyone spotting visible bursts to call our customer helpline on 0845 601 8855.”
