WATCH: MP's bid to spice up PMQs with longbow

Borders MP Calum Kerr gets some tuition in the longbow from Ettrick Forest Archers chairman Doug Anderson.

The SNP MP brought along his family, and enjoyed firing a few arrows under the tuteledge of club chairman Doug Anderson.

Asked if he enjoyed it and would take it up as a hobby, he joked that it would spice up Prime Minister’s Questions.

He said: “Who knows, with all the strange rules at Westminster, you might be allowed a bow.

“The distance between the two benches in Westminster is two sword-lengths ... so there is bound to be some sort of law about longbows.

“And you still have, in the members’ cloakroom, the little hooks where you can hang a sword if you want to, so maybe I’ll take a longbow and see what happens.”

Mr Kerr said he was very impressed by the club and how it had progressed since its birth eight years ago.

He added: “This club has only been going for eight years and it has 70 members, and now it has this phenomenal clubhouse.

Aileen Campbell MSP, minister for public health and sport, gets some tuition from the club's Adair Anderson.

“I have nothing but admiration for Doug and all the crew behind it, and a huge thank you to Sir Michael [Strang Steel] for his support.

“It’s marvellous that they have this facility in this field, where they can practice their sport safely.

“I hear they practice in all weathers ... it is a great facility and I encourage local people to get involved.

“Everybody should have a shot.”
