WATCH: Floods update – Wednesday, December 30 1.30pm

With heavy rainfall overnight persisting through this morning, Ettrick river levels are undoubtedly high, with our footage above showing huge trees and debris being swept downstream.

Also, the channels dug earlier this month, diverting the Long Philip Burn away from properties in Bannerfield, seem to be still doing their job.

With the rain reported to stop early this afternoon, it seems the work done so far by the Selkirk Flood Protection Scheme has been more than worth it.

In Hawick, the Teviot has not yet burst, but high tide is expected soon. Three hundred homes have been evacuated in the town.

In Peebles, some residents have been evacuated as a precaution, while the Cuddy Side bridge has been closed. Cuddy Side and Tweed Green had been cleared of vehicles.

Other Borders towns are hoping Frank passes them by without too much damage being done, although Dumfries and Galloway has been badly hit, with our sister paper The Galloway Gazette, based in Newton Stewart having to leave their office as flood levels rose and entered the building through the front door.
