Michael Moore saw his 18-year tenure as a Borders MP brought to a brutal end by a surge in support for the SNP.
He said that he felt there were various reasons why his party’s share of the vote had, like so many of his Lib Dem colleagues across the UK, collapsed in such astonishing fashion.
“But it has been a privilege to represent this area and I wish Calum all the best,” he added.
