Voluntary doors open in Kelso and Jedburgh

nationwide charity the WRVS has opened the doors to two new social centres in the Borders.

A spokeperson said social centres were underpinned by a preventative approach to reducing isolation and encouraging interaction and stimulation for the elderly in the community.

The Jedburgh Social Centre is open on Mondays and Wednesdays, and Kelso on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The centres are available to anyone over the age of 55 who would benefit from social interaction and from being with people.

The spokesperson added: “A flexible approach is also offered for a drop-in for lunch or short visit.”

Volunteering opportunities are available for drivers and for assistance at the centres. The WRVS pays 45p per mile for all journeys.
