Turning to A7 upgrade

It beggars belief that we are still on track for the Edinburgh-Tweedbank railway project.

Transport Scotland still maintains that the railway will be “efficiently and successfully” brought to fruition.

How can there be any guarantees when we are now down to only one bidder, who is asking for more finance already? As there is no competition, it is now carte blanche for this bidder to push this project over budget.

Have we not learned anything from the Scottish Parliament and Edinburgh trams fiascos?

Let’s stop this now before us taxpayers get lumbered with yet more fallout from these ill-advised projects. Use the money for the railway on upgrading the A7 between Hawick and Edinburgh instead. This would be much cheaper, much quicker and will deliver far more benefits to the whole of the Borders.
