Venlaw, in a previous gig at the Neidpath Inn. They’ll be back on Friday along with three other local bands to raise funds and food for the Peeblesshire Food Bank.

The Rock ’n’ Roll fundraiser at the Neidpath Inn in Peebles’ Old Town sees Gutterblood, Venlaw, Geckohead and Mother Bru join forces to raise cash and food donations for the Peeblesshire Food Bank.

Tom Swift of Venlaw told The Southern: “It came about through conversations between the members of Gutterblood and Venlaw.

“We were trying to think of ways that we could make a positive impact on our community and help out those in need this Christmas.

“Everyone knows people who have been adversely affected by austerity and universal credit, and the need for us all to be generous and charitable has never been greater.

“Peebleshire Food Bank are on the front line of this battle against inequality and so we thought that we would do our best to raise awareness, and hopefully a decent amount of money, for the local people who are struggling this festive period.

“When it came to choosing the bands we all felt like the Borders has a lot to offer that goes way beyond the usual traditional gigs and thought we would put on an event to showcase some of the amazing local alternative musicians.

“This was the perfect opportunity to get a young band involved and really try to start developing a music scene in Peebles, so Geckohead were invited along too.

“We needed an MC with a big voice and a big personality to keep the night running smoothly, so we got in touch with Gregor McGill from Mother Bru, who enthusiastically agreed. To top it off, the rest of Mother Bru thought that it was such a good cause that they offered to play a stripped back set at the last minute too.”

It’s free entry for the event, although you’ll be asked to make some sort of donation to the food bank.

The music kicks off at 8pm. See 10 things to do – page 34.
