The first occurred at 9.45am near the green at St Boswells, and police say the single-vehicle collision was attended by ambulance crews but was not serious.

The road was shut for around two hours, though.

Later that same day, the road was closed again in both directions at around 5pm after a driver took unwell at the wheel.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “It was a single-car crash at around 5.10pm on Thursday, March 12, around two miles south of St Boswells.

“The male driver had a medical episode at the wheel and his vehicle came to stop at a tree. The road reopened at 8.55pm.”

Police say both of the people hurt in the accidents were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Traffic was diverted via Kelso at St Boswells and via Hawick at Cleekimin.
