Nests stall A68 bridge works

This week's planned works on the A68 bridge over the Leader Water south of Earlston have been postponed, after nesting birds were discovered on the structure.
The heavily-used trunk road was due to be closed overnight on Monday, with traffic lights in place during the daytime all week, in order that roads maintenance company BEAR Scotland could resurface the road and to allow replacement of the bridge’s expansion joints.
However, with the discovery of the nests, these works have been postponed.
The works will be rescheduled in a few weeks' time after the chicks have fledged and the nest is no longer in use.
