Heriot accident closes road

The A7 north of Heriot was closed around 6.40am yesterday (Monday) after the driver of a fully loaded articulated wood lorry allegedly lost control whilst attempting to negotiate a sharp left-hand bend, resulting in 28 tonnes of sawn timber being scattered over the road and adjoining fields. The road was closed for around three hours as emergency services cleared the road.

No-one was injured in the accident which occured around half a mile north of Heriot.

A 52-year-old male was subsequently charged with a contravention of the Road Traffic Act 1988 and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
