The poor state of that particular road is causing concern to cyclists and motorists, as well as those who enjoy watching the Braw Lad and Lass lead the cavalcade of horses as they speed up the hill on Gala’s big day.

Several people have taken to social media to voice their concerns about the road, the welfare of the horses and riders and for other road users.

While the wintry weather has caused havoc with the state of repair of many Borders roads, the surface at Scott Street is particularly bad, as shown by these photos.

However, a council spokesperson said: “Temporary repairs will be completed in time for Braw Lads’ Day on Saturday, June 30, with a resurfacing project for a section of this road expected to be carried out in this financial year.”
