Time to call a halt to rally

After four accidents had occured in Birgham over three years, I commenced a campaign against speeding traffic through the village.

I was laughed at – even sneered at – but I persevered.

Eventually, with much assistance, a 30mph flashing sign was erected which the majority of drivers adhere to. But, of course, those with not much ‘upstairs’ do not.

No accidents have been reported since.

My husband and I recently came back from a visit to traffic-congested England. It was so good to get back to the peaceful Borders – or so I imagined.

Sadly, the events of the past weekend proved me wrong.

Not only was the noise of the Jim Clark rally cars horrendous, their speed was also. We all know what this resulted in.

Our hearts go out to the families of the deceased – and we wish the injured a good recovery.

I, for one, hope that the Jim Clark Rally never occurs again in this area.

Let this be the end.
