Organised by business community, BID for Galashiels, the inaugural event featured jaw-dropping performances by professional stunt group Team Extreme, which gave spectacular demonstrations on BMX bikes and skateboards on a half-pipe in Bank Street Gardens.

Professional athletes, including double European inline skate champion Rich Parker, wowed the crowds throughout the afternoon.

Team Extreme members also provided free coaching to kids desperate to get on the halfpipe with their heroes.

Event co-organiser Andrew Poole said up to 6,000 people had attended the event.

“It was an amazing day – the town was bouncing,” he told us, “Team Extreme were simply amazing. They exceeded expectations and people of all ages were thrilled with the performances.”

An 18ft climbing wall and gladiator battle arena were among the other attractions, as well as Zumba and spin bike demonstrations, and a live music stage at Interchange Plaza featuring local acts Urang Matang, Metropolis and Coverdale & Fraser.

“The crowds created a fantastic atmosphere throughout the town and we know that people travelled from throughout the Borders for the event,” added BID Galashiels chairman, Craig Murray.

BID For Galashiels wants to establish a Business Improvement District in the town centre. Part of that project is to demonstrate to local businesses how we can improve footfall and visitors to the town.

“This event is just one example of how we may be able to do that on a more regular basis, if the business owners vote positively for a BID to be established when they are balloted in November this year,” Andrew added.
