Taking the striking doctors to tax

In response to condemnation of doctors by Ruth Davidson MSP for going on strike, Mr M. McDonald MSP is quoted as saying: “Doctors pay taxes.”

Before I write further, I am aware there are many public service workers doing essential work – some that others won’t do.

However. Mr McDonald and others of that ilk seem to be wearing rose-tinted glasses. Every penny that all public service workers receive – including that paid as income tax, community tax, VAT and eventually pensions – is derived from the public purse, courtesy of the wealth-producing workers who, in some cases, are worse off than those in the public sector.

In days gone past doctors were highly respected (some even had children named after them) for their selfless devotion to the sick. Today they seem to be as self-seeking as the politicians.
