Galashiels Academy students Amber Masters, pictured right, and Charlotte Dunn, left, described their experiences at the Rotary Youth Leadership camp beside Loch Tay to the town’s Rotary club.

Along with other girls from across the south of Scotland, they enjoyed various challenges, including climbing to the “pizza box”, a small, unsteady platform high above the ground; hill walking and an overnight canoe expedition on Loch Tay.

The boys’ and girls’ groups who have separate weeks at the camp worked together on a sponsored hill walk at the end of September and have raised about £2,000. Half of this will go to the Aberlour Children’s Charity and the rest to Rotary’s End Polio Now appeal.

Funding from a recent Rotary shop in the town will go towards sending another two students to the camp in July 2013.
