The skatepark in Kelso is the place to be on Saturday, April 28, as the venue’s first ever opening “jam” takes place from 10am-5pm.

Organiser Ali Hay (pictured, holding the skateboard) hopes to get as many Borderers to the event as possible.

He said: “It’s just to show what a great facility this is. We’ll have plenty of prizes, a bar, and a barbecue (weather permitting)and a Swap-a-rama, where people can bring along any equipment they don’t use, such as skateboards, scooters or mountain bikes and either sell, swap or gift to anyone who needs it. It should be a great day ... just keeping the fingers crossed for the weather.”

The skatepark, in the town’s Shedden Park, was opened in November last year.

A crowdfunding campaign and several grants produced the £230,000 it took to fund a feasibility study, lease, planning and building warrant, insurance and, of course, the build itself.
