A former sheriff court official who embezzled money from the court where she worked has escaped a jail sentence.
Jennifer Maben stole £3,000 while working as a sheriff clerk depute at Selkirk Sheriff Court in the Scottish Borders.
Maben admitted embezzlement when she appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last month.
And on Monday she was back in court where she received a Community Payback Order of 250 hours of unpaid work.
Sheriff Tom Welsh also ordered her to make compensation in the sum of £3,000.
The Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service (SCTS) has welcomed the court decision.
A spokesman told The Southern Reporter: “Jennifer Maben is no longer employed with the SCTS.
“The SCTS expects all employees to adhere to the core values of the organisation, acting with integrity and being professional at all times.
“Policies and procedures are in place to deal with situations where employees fall below our high standards and we welcome the court’s verdict.”
