SBC currently spends £38,000 a year printing and mailing papers for its meetings. But a new project is expected to save around £17,000 a year with new committee management software.

Reports, agendas and appendices will soon no longer be printed but be available through Modern.gov. This is a leading committee management solution in the UK, and is available on the web and as an app on tablets. This will replace the former system, known as CoInS (Committee Information System).

All councillors have been issued with iPads to allow them to access Modern.gov, as well as secure emails, calendars and internet browsing.

Councillor Michael Cook, corporate member for HR and corporate improvement, said: “Not only will this modernise the council and save us money, it will bring environmental benefits from reduction in paper usage. It will also be much easier for members of the public to access committee papers.”

Modern.gov is now running on the council’s website. Visitors can access committee papers from www.scotborders.gov.uk/yourcouncil
