West Linton vet Dr Morag Kerr has been chosen by the SNP to fight the vacant Tweeddale West seat on Scottish Borders Council.

The by-election was made necessary by the resignation in July of Conservative Nathaniel Buckingham.

She’s described as an activist and a community campaigner who welcomes local development but says any more must be matched by improvements in infrastructure.

Dr Kerr (pictured) added:“The SNP-led council have shown their commitment to helping people in their daily lives by freezing the Council Tax and by bringing local government much closer to the people with the introduction of local area forums.”

Candidates already declared are Keith Cockburn (Conservative); Nancy Norman (Lib Dem) and Davie Pye (Borders Party).

Nominations close at 4pm on Monday and voting is on Thursday, October 10.
