Scotland’S rural affairs and environment minister Richard Lochhead was in the Borders this week, endorsing the campaigns of the two SNP candidates ahead of the May 5 election.
On Tuesday, he joined Christine Grahame, who is fighting Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale, on a visit to Eastside near Penicuik, a working farm which has diversified into tourism accommodation, before heading for the award-winning Whitmuir Organic Farm near West Linton.
The visit concluded at the Gala Fish Farm at Torwoodlee just north of Galashiels.
On Wednesday, Mr Lochhead and Paul Wheelhouse, who is fighting the Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire constituency, visited seafood supplier DR Collin & Son in Eyemouth to discuss export opportunities, before going to the newly reopened Duns swimming pool which received funding of more than £600,000 through the Scottish Rural Development Programme.
Later, Mr Lochhead and Mr Wheelhouse met local farmers to discuss proposals in the party’s farming manifesto to promote the interests of the agricultural sector.
