Melrose players Ruari Campbell and Patrick Anderson will be joined by Hawick youngsters Daniel Suddon and Kyle Brunton as well as Jed Thistle’s Robbie Yourston and Euan Jackson from Peebles.

The Borderers will be part of a 40-man squad of home-based players attending a training camp at BT Murrayfield later this month.

The camp will give Donaldson and his assistant coaches, Andy Henderson and Ben Cairns, the opportunity to have a closer look at the players before they reduce the group to a 26-man squad in January.

“At this stage we have only included home-based players, although we’ll be adding in exiles in the New Year, which will increase the competition for places,” said Donaldson.

The youngsters will play their first international match against England in March before taking part in an inaugural 5 Nations Tournament in April.

The Under 18s selections follow on from the news that 13 Borders players have been selected for the Scotland Club International Squad. See page 79.
