RAF Association remembers heroes on Remembrance Sunday

On Sunday, November 13, the UK will commemorate the heroic efforts, achievements and sacrifices of our fallen veterans in past and current conflicts.

Branches of the Royal Air Forces Association around the world will be marking this important day of remembrance and today calls on its members and the general public to turn out in force to pay their respects.

As the nation unites in remembering our fallen, and the families who have lost their loved ones in service, the Association is appealing for people to join its ranks or volunteer to enable the charity to continue its vital work across the UK.

With the sacrifices of service personnel at the centre of public consciousness, the Association also recognises the effect on families whose loved ones may be currently serving or have formerly served. The organisation is committed to supporting servicemen and women, as well as the wider RAF family in a variety of ways by delivering help and support where it is needed.

Every year the Association’s network of volunteer welfare officers make over 100,000 welfare visits and calls offering support and advice to those who need it. It also gives expert advice and professional assistance on War Pensions and the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme.

The important work carried out by the Association would simply not be possible without the generosity of its members and volunteers.

David Prowse, Director of Membership and Operations at the Royal Air Forces Association, said: “We receive no government funding and rely solely on the public’s generosity, especially from our members and volunteers. During this time of national commemoration, we are trying to appeal to members of the RAF family or anyone with an interest in the RAF to join the Association to help us be there for those who need us.

“Members make a hugely positive contribution towards the Association’s support for RAF service personnel and their families.

“Our members also benefit from a multitude of membership rewards, including travel, shopping, lifestyle and leisure offers, discounts and savings – from discounted gym memberships and spa gift cards, to deals to money saving deals on groceries and car insurance.”
