Quintet hope for five-star showing

HAWICK Music Live! will have a complete change of sound for its next concert.

The Northern Lights Wind Quintet combine flute, oboe, clarinet, French horn and bassoon.

“This newly-formed quintet, all former recent students from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, and winners of several prestigious prizes, are at the forefront of Scotland’s buzzing chamber music scene,” said Gordon Macdonald of Hawick Music Live!

Their programme will cover a variety of styles from a Claude Debussy Suite, Edward Elgar’s Salut d’Amore to Malcolm Arnold’s Three Sea Shanties.

Such is their versatility they will also play an arrangement of the Charleston, followed by the theme from The Simpsons.

The concert takes place on Friday, October 19, in Heart of Hawick and starts at 7pm.
