Scottish Green Party members will launch their campaign for the Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale constituency in Peebles on Saturday (February 21), with co-convener of the Scottish Greens, Patrick Harvie MSP, set to speak at the campaign launch in the County Hotel from 3pm.
Local Greens are backing Peebles man Jody Jamieson for the seat, currently held by David Mundell MP.
Mr Harvie said: “After the surge in Green membership in recent months, I’m delighted that we are standing in a record number of seats this May.
“I look forward to campaigning across the Borders with Jody and presenting our Green vision of stronger communities and sustainable jobs.”
Ahead of Saturday’s launch, Mr Jamieson said: “Westminster politicians tell us there is no alternative to austerity. I am proud to stand on a platform opposing austerity and poverty.
“Recent events in Greece and Spain show how much people across Europe are crying out for a change, away from cuts and towards investment in public services.
“Vital public services are just that – vital – and we need political parties like the Greens to protect them.
“I would like to thank the Green members in the constituency of Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale for selecting me, and I hope to do them proud.”
