Police name girl who died in A68 crash

The woman who died in a road traffic collision on the A68 on Wednesday (April 13) has been named as 18-year-old Lisa Bahmani from Hawick.

The two-car collision happened on the A68 south of the village of Newton St Boswells at around 8pm on Wednesday, April 13.

Lisa, who was driving a Hyundai Getz, was taken to Borders General Hospital where she later died.

Her family wish to issue the following statement through Police Scotland: “Lisa was a much-loved daughter, sister and friend. She was a special loving girl who loved animals.

“Lisa will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

“We are grateful for all the messages of support.

“We would like to ask the media for privacy now to come to terms with our loss.”

A 71-year-old woman behind the wheel of a Suzuki Ignis is in a serious condition at the hospital where her male passenger, 78, is being treated for non-life threatening chest injuries.

Road Policing Officers closed the road at the site of the accident for around ten hours on Wednesday, and are now urging anyone who can assist with their inquiries to come forward.

Sergeant Neil Inglis from the Divisional Road Policing Unit at Galashiels said: “Tragically this collision has resulted in the death of a young woman and the driver of the other vehicle remains in a very serious condition in hospital.

“We are continuing with our investigation to 
establish the full circumstances surrounding this collision and would urge any motorists who were on the A68 at around 8pm on Wednesday to contact us immediately if they witnessed the incident,” Sgt Inglis continued.

“In addition, anyone with any further information relevant to this inquiry should also get in touch.”
