Borders police want to trace a woman who helped an elderly lady who was robbed in Galashiels at the weekend in a cowardly attack.
The 85-year-old woman was pushed to the ground as she walked between Croft Street and Greenbank Street at midday on Saturday, September 10. She suffered serious injuries and the man who assaulted her took her beige handbag and ran off towards a parking area nearby.
A number of members of the public came to the aid of the injured lady, including a man who left to look for the offender. This male has now been traced, but from speaking to other witnesses at the scene there is a further passer-by that officers would like to speak to.
DC Lizzie Miller is part of the investigation team, she said: “This woman stopped to help the injured lady, but left as the ambulance service arrived. She is a significant witness and may have information that could help us identify the man responsible.
“She is described as an older woman, wearing dark clothing and possibly glasses. If this is you, or you know who she is, please get in contact as soon as possible.”
Call Galashiels CID on 101. Anyone with information about the robbery should also call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
