The council’s proposed local development plan will be presented to communities at upcoming area forum meetings.

The plan sets out a range of proposals for the Borders including a variety of land uses and policies to influence decision-making on planning applications.

A 12-week consultation period will start later this year.

Councillor Ron Smith, SBC’s executive member for planning and the environment, said: “I would encourage the community to come along to the area forums to find out more about this part of the planning process, because the plans we make now will be used in the future to determine planning applications and to bring forward new land for development.”

The area forum meetings take place as follows: November 6, 6.30pm, Jedburgh Grammar School (Cheviot); November 13, 6.30pm, Selkirk High School (Eildon); November 19, 6.30pm, Lesser Town Hall, High Street, Hawick (Teviot and Liddesdale); November 27, 6.30pm, Council Chamber, Rosetta Road, Peebles (Tweeddale); December 5, 6.30pm, Council Chamber, Duns (Berwickshire).

Berwickshire Area Forum will also hold a session from 5.45pm to 6.15pm when a planning officer will be available to answer any questions.
