Young and old have a ba’ during Ancrum games
A good turnout of villagers and visitors contested 15 ba’s on Saturday afternoon.
Organiser Ian Heard said: “It was a thoroughly enjoyable day. We had a really good turnout from the young ones too, which is always good to see.

The village’s uppies, fighting to hail ba’s over the old manse wall, won the men’s game 5-1, and the doonies, hailing ba’s over the mantle wall at Ancrum Mill, claimed victory 4-1 in the under-12s’ game. The 16-and-under game ended 2-2.

In the 12-and-under game, the Lizzie Smart memorial ba’ was hailed by doonie Harry Wright, the village ba’ by doonie Logan Scott, the Iain and Ivor Heard ba’ by doonie Cody Heard, the A Maxwell courtesy ba’ by doonie Aiden McKechnie and the Rowan Heard birth ba’ by uppie Samuel Sutton.

Hide AdIn the 16-and-under game, the Ancrum Pantry ba’ was hailed by uppie Robbie Amos, Louise and David Thomson’s silver wedding anniversary ba’ by doonie Harry Wright, Alisha McWilliam’s birth ba’ by doonie Lewis Ralston, and the G MacDonald Painter and Decorator ba’ by uppie Finlay Crowe.
In the adults’ game, the Frank Campbell memorial ba’, Nicola and Graham Beck’s 50th birthdays ba’ and the Ancrum Football Club ba’ were all hailed up by Sean Linton, the Ancrum Bowling Club ba’ by uppie Will Hornsby Phillips, the Ancrum Cross Keys ba’ by uppie Struan Linton and the Bonjedward Garage ba’ by doonie Callum Laing.
