We’re hoping our readers can help us out with identifying a strange light in the sky, taken on Monday night in Earlston.

While there are a swathe of UFO sightings across the central belt of Scotland, we rarely hear of any in the Borders.

But one of our readers, who we have agreed not to name, was giving her dog some time in the garden at around 9pm before retiring for the night, and decided to take a picture of the night sky on her phone as it was particularly lovely.

She told us: “I only took the image to capture the moon as it was looking beautiful.

Does anyone have a clue as to what this could be?Does anyone have a clue as to what this could be?

“I didn’t notice anything else besides how visible the planets were on the right side of the moon.

“But when I zoomed in I saw what looks like a green disc-like object.

“It created quite a stir in my household as I shared it with my daughter.

“I’d like to hear some opinions on what it could be.”

We have no idea if the object was stationary or moving at the time, but we’ve blown the area up on the image so you can get a better look at it.

It appears to be green and cigar-shaped, and certainly doesn’t look like a planet.

Over to you!
