The Right Reverend John Chalmers, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, is to visit Borders presbyteries over nine days, including Easter weekend, beginning on Saturday.

Along with his wife, Elizabeth, the Moderator is due to attend morning worship at Hawick Trinity Church on Sunday to preach and give the Benediction.

In the evening, he will preach and give the Benediction at Channelkirk Village Hall.

On Monday and Tuesday, the official party will be in Berwickshire and on Wednesday, the Moderator will visit Tweed Horizons at Newtown St Boswells.

On Thursday, the Moderator will visit Langlee Primary School and Special Needs Complex in Galashiels, before driving to Castle Craig Hospital, Peebles, and then Carlops Church.

The remainder of next week and Easter weekend will see a number of church services, including a special ‘Meet the Moderator’ Family Walk – open to all – along the Borders Abbeys Way from Abbotsford to Dryburgh Abbey on Saturday, April 4.

April 5 is Easter Sunday and there will be an ecumenical sunrise service in celebration of Easter at Dryburgh Abbey.

This will be followed by a united morning service at Westruther Church for Gordon, Greenlaw, Legerwood and Westruther, and in the evening there will be a joint Presbyteries Songs of Praise Service in Kelso North Church for Easter.
