Minister’s exploratory woodland mission to Peebles

Kingsmeadows nursery in Peebles had a visit from Maree Todd, the Scottish Government’s minister for children and young people.The nursery had engaged with Jennifer Allan from the University of the West of Scotland in the development of a learning module on Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM) for early-years practitioners. The nursery was recognised for good practice in engaging children with STEM exploration and experiences.This led to the Scottish Government selecting Kingsmeadows for the launch of the online learning module by Maree Todd. During her visit she read with the babies, engaged with sand and water play with the toddlers, and joined the pre-school children in their explorations in the woods. Kingsmeadows Nursery grounds incorporate garden areas, vegetable-growing beds and woodland areas – in addition to being located adjacent to a much larger woodland area where the children can investigate, explore and learn through expanding their curiosity in a natural environment.z Pictured, Maree Todd explores the woodland next to Kingsmeadows nursery with the children.
