Galashiels volunteers bag litter down by the riverside

Last Saturday 12 Gala Waterways Group volunteers filled 23bags (107kg) of litter by the mill lade and river opposite Dale Street.

A volunteer, earlier in the week, cut back vegetation to assist with easier access to the area.

Group chair Liz Jardine said: “The amount of litter in this area was quite overwhelming.

“Thank you to all the volunteers who worked incredibly hard in the time allocated. Unfortunately, we were unable to clear it all.

I would like to extend a warm welcome to the newcomers and hope they haven’t been too daunted by Saturday’s task and that they will keep supporting us and encourage others to join us.”
