Farewell to Marion
Melrose Parish Church was the setting for a recent memorable concert, when The Roxburgh Singers, under their conductor Marion Dodd and accompanied by members of other Border choirs, an orchestra and four soloists, sang the Magnificat by Pergolesi and Mozart’s Requiem Mass in D minor.
They started the concert by singing the Ukrainian National Anthem, in Ukrainian. So far, more than £3,000 has been raised for the Disasters Emergency Committee Ukraine Appeal,
The concert ended with a rousing impromptu performance of the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah, marking the retirement of Marion Dodd after 26 years as musical director and conductor, leaving a rich legacy.
She was presented with an engraved glass bowl by the group’s patron, the Duke of Buccleuch.
