Businesses urged to help clean up their own bit of Selkirk

At the town’s latest community council meeting, held via Zoom on Monday, vice-chairman Graham Easton said: “We did a lot of weedkilling before the common riding week, but it’s getting badly weeded again.

“I’m wondering if we can ask businesses and residents to tidy their own particular shop or house front?

“It would help a hell of a lot, to be honest. Five minutes with a hoe would be all it takes.

“There’s been a lot of visitors to the town in the last few weeks, and it doesn’t make a great impression when you see all the weeds outside Selkirk buildings.”

Selkirkshire councillor Caroline Cochrane said: “If the community council sends an email to the Selkirk business improvement district scheme, they have all the email addresses of the businesses and they can send it on.”

The council is planning to take a stall at the next farmers’ market in Market Place to highlight such initiatives.
