Two people have been charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act after police recovered a quantity of class A drugs in Galashiels.

Officers carried out searches of a property and vehicle in Beech Avenue on Tuesday, September 24 and seized diamorphine.

The total value of the recovered drugs is around £28,000.

A 50-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of drugs offences and were scheduled to appear at Duns Sheriff Court the following day.

Chief Inspector Kenny Simpson said: “The quantity of diamorphine seized as part of this activity was intended for distribution within the local community and I am delighted that we have disrupted this.

“Police Scotland is committed to tackling the scourge of drugs from the Scottish Borders and will robustly investigate any reports of drug related crime we receive from the public.

“Anyone with information that can help us target those involved in the production and distribution of drugs is asked to contact their local policing team or make an anonymous report via the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
