Budding Border jazz musicians are invited to play alongside some of Scotland’s finest in a free workshop at Duns High School on December 11.
The National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland (NYJOS) is swapping its formal auditions for these interactive group sessions with NYJOS artistic directors Malcolm Edmonstone and Andrew Bain, who will also perform live as a trio, together with special guest Jules Jackson on bass, playing funk, soul and traditional jazz.
“Auditions for all 2014 jazz courses take on a new and exciting format this year,” a spokesperson said.
“All applicants to any jazz activities in 2014 are invited.
“The relaxed and informal format these events helps to ease nerves and creates the ideal setting for bringing out the best in these young musicians.
“These sessions offer a wonderful opportunity for the students to learn from professional musicians and their peers, as well as refresh or develop improvisation, rhythm and harmony skills.
“They are also a great way for musicians to meet like-minded young people.”
