It really must be spring, and we’re not just talking about the gorgeous weather.
Following our story last week about the monster 28lb lamb born near Lauder, we have another happy ovine tale for you.
This photo was taken by Alistair Mitchell of his mum, Lesley, with one of their Lleyn ewes, which gave birth to no less than five healthy lambs on Good Friday, at Whitriggs Farm near Denholm.
Lesley told us: “It is very rare for a sheep to have five lambs, especially all born alive and healthy.
“Some breeds are more prolific than others, but most have two with some having three, or on an odd occasion, four.
“We have had more lambs this year, partly due to the good summer last year, when the ewes had plenty of good quality grass and we were able to make a lot of good quality silage to feed them on over the winter.
“We are almost three-quarters of the way through the lambing now, and it is nice to see the sheep in the fields on a sunny day with their lambs.”
