A man of rugby, of Burns and Galashiels
A long-time servant to the game of rugby in Galashiels and the wider community has died at the age of 91.
Tom Purves was president of Gala YM for many years, president at Gala RFC in seasons 1981-82 and 1982-83. He was made a life member of the senior club in 1992.
He was a lover of Burns and president of the Gala Burns Club in 1972-73 and was later made a life member. Mr Purves chaired the Galashiels Local Relief Committee and was involved in running local garage company, Adam Purves and son.
