Nostalgia: Hawick and Denholm fun run for primary schools
Runners in the Hawick and Denholm Primary Schools town and country run line up under the watchful eye of '˜Uncle' Bill McLaren in July 1986.
Over 350 pupils took part, with primary six and seven children from seven schools taking in the two-and-a-half mile course. Though it was strictly for fun, it also presented a challenge, featuring most elements of a cross-country run. First home in a time of 18 minutes was Jaimie Hughes of Stirches Primary, closely followed by his brother Donald.
