A CHURCH service, music and a quiz are planned as Kelso and the surrounding area again embrace Christian Aid Week next month.
Preparations have now begun in Kelso to make Christian Aid Week 2011, which runs from Sunday, May 15 through to Saturday, May 21, as successful as it was last year when the Tweedside town raised £5,700.
Events kick off on the Sunday with a Kelso Churches Together joint service in St Andrews Church at 6.30pm.
On Monday, May 16, St Boswell’s Silver Band and One-a-Cord Ladies Barber Shop Choir perform at the same venue. This event begins at 7.30pm and donations will be taken at the door. Proceeds are going towards Help for Heroes, as well as Christian Aid.
A Quiz Aid quiz night will be held at the Cross Keys Hotel on Thursday, May 19, at 7.30pm. Teams of four will compete for the Kelso Quiz Aid Trophy and the winners will also be presented with certificates. Entry forms are available from Hector Innes or Kelso Churches.
Small red envelopes will be delivered to every house in the town and these will be collected throughout the week.
The special seven days of fundraising began after the Second World War as a response from the churches to the horrors of the refugee crisis in Europe.
The week’s nationwide house-to-house collection was the first to be organised in the UK. The charity supports people living in poverty in the developing world, regardless of their race or religion.
