Mr Lamont said: “The Berwickshire coast has enormous economic potential and this extra funding could make a real difference.

“The Coastal Communities Fund is a fantastic resource which ensures that Crown Estates money is ploughed back into coastal communities. Here in the Borders our communities have diverse economies but as a rural and coastal area we also face many unique challenges. This money is designed to help areas like the Berwickshire coast adapt to these challenges.

“Analysis has found every £1 invested generates up to an £8 benefit for the local area. I would urge local businesses, charities and other organisations to bid for a share of this funding.”
