'˜Microsoft' scam returns to Borders

Police are reminding Borderers about a well-known phone scam by a man claiming to be from 'Microsoft Technical support' following the latest attempt to gain access to a computer.

The man, who had an Indian accent, claimed that he needed to gain access to the resident’s computer because her computer was sending out signals to the internet.

A police spokesman said: “Computer firms will not make unsolicited phone calls to help you fix or update your computer.

“Please treat all calls like this as highly suspicious and do not give out personal details or transfer money.

“The best advice is to end the call immediately.”
