Man is arrested for serious assault in Hawick

A 29-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a serious assault that took place in the centre of Hawick on Thursday night.

At around 11pm a man in his 30s sustained a number of head and facial injuries following the altercation within a domestic premises in the Millport area.

He was transferred to Borders General Hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.

Officers swiftly traced a man as part of their inquiries and he has now been reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

Detective Sergeant James Welsh of Dalkeith CID said: “Attacks of this nature are completely unacceptable and it goes without saying that Police Scotland has a zero tolerance approach towards anyone involved in this sort of criminal activity.

“We will always act on information passed to us.”
