A total of 240 people in 60 teams entered this year’s event in the Volunteer Hall last Friday, and helped organiser Lucy McAneny reach around £40,000 raised for the national charity through the Big Quiz and Big and Wee Walk.

Lucy said: “Despite now being in our seventh year, this was our biggest Big Quiz yet and I have to give a massive thank you to everyone who helped contribute to a great night.”

The winning team – Rory Hedderley, Bruce Hunter and Lewis and Marc Playfair – finished ahead of Gala Cricket Club Seconds and Ref’n Idiots.

The Wooden Spoon went to Mammas and the Pappas.

Alongside five rounds of quiz questions was the famous paper aeroplane competition and Irish bingo, as well as another hugely successful raffle.

The Big Quiz is held in memory of Lucy’s late father Dunc Paterson, the former Scotland scrum half and national team manager.
