Police were alerted to a vehicle crash at Bonchester Bridge yesterday, in which a heavy goods vehicle left the road and tipped over into a field, spilling its load of asphalt, and the cab separated from the chassis.

The male driver was seen walking around after the incident, and was taken to the Borders General Hospital, but his injuries are not thought to be serious.

As the lorry was not blocking the road, the recovery team was not deployed until later in the day.
