Let’s hear it for those who served in reserved occupations

We are a group of historians based at the Scottish Oral History Centre at the University of Strathclyde.

We are currently embarking on a project to interview men who were in reserved occupations in Britain during the Second World War.

We feel that these men made an immense contribution to the war effort but, as yet, their experiences of the war remain largely unknown.

This is a situation we aim to remedy. We will interview them in a place convenient to them (usually in their own home) and we are able to travel all over Britain. Interviews will normally last around one to two hours. Interviewees’ information will be stored, archived and used in accordance with their wishes.

Given the advanced age of these veterans, we are keen to complete these interviews soon before it is too late and at present we are trying to locate such men.

Therefore we were hoping your readers could help us. If they know of anyone who fulfils our criteria – or if they do themselves – they are asked to contact us: Scottish Oral History Centre, School of Humanities (History), McCance Building, 16 Richmond Street, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow G1 1XQ (email: linsey.robb@strath.ac.uk; phone: 0141 548 2229).
